Poker

Poker is a card game where players try to win money by having the best hand. While it may seem like a lot of luck, most forms of poker require considerable skill and strategy.

How to Play:

Before any cards are dealt, all players must ante something (the amount varies by game, our games are typically a nickel). After that they receive their cards and make a decision about whether to bet or fold.

The most common type of poker is Texas Hold’Em. There are many other variations, but most of them involve the same basic rules.

Betting:

In most poker games, betting starts when the first player makes a bet. Afterwards, the player to the left must either “call” by putting in the same number of chips as the previous bet or “raise,” by adding more than enough chips to call.

How to Win:

There are 10 ways to win in poker, from lowest to highest: High Card; Pair of Cards; Two Pairs; Three of a Kind; Straight; Flush; Royal Flush; Full House; Four-of-a-Kind; and Five-of-a-Kind. In some cases, a wild card can break ties.

The best hand wins the pot. However, in some games the best hand is the lowest-ranked hand, and in other games the pot is divided equally among the highest and lowest hands.
