In poker, there are several essential rules that are common to all variants. The basic premise is that each player\u2019s hand contains five cards, with each card valued in inverse proportion to its mathematical frequency.<\/p>\n
During each betting round, each player is dealt two cards that are kept secret from the rest of the players. The first player to bet must pay a certain amount of money called the ante.<\/p>\n
The ante is typically a small amount and is determined by the table. In Texas Hold\u2019em, the ante is usually $1 or $5.<\/p>\n
Players are allowed to call the ante (matching the bet), raise the ante, or fold their hand by placing all of their cards facedown onto the table. When the flop comes, all of the players in the pot bet once again, and then each player reveals his or her cards.<\/p>\n
