Poker is a card game played with a group of people in which you place bets to see who has the best hand. It\u2019s a great way to get some friendly competition and socialize with your friends.<\/p>\n
When the game starts each player has to ante some money (amount varies by game) and then they\u2019re dealt 2 cards face down. When betting begins, players put their chips into the pot and can raise, call or fold. The highest hand wins the pot.<\/p>\n
Once all the bets are in, another card is dealt, this is called the flop and there\u2019s another round of betting. If you have a good hand off the flop, you can say \u201ccall\u201d or \u201cI call\u201d which means to bet the same amount as the last person.<\/p>\n
There are several types of poker hands, the most common being a royal flush (A, K, Q, J, 10 all of the same suit), straight flush (5 consecutive cards of one suit), three of a kind (three matching cards of the same rank) and two pair (2 different pairs).<\/p>\n
Despite it\u2019s reputation as a gambling game, there is actually quite a bit of skill involved in winning poker. By watching the way other players play and learning to pick out their chinks in their armor, you can improve your own play and make more profit.
